How To Stick With Your New Years Resolution

New years resolutions are a less exciting now and a more challenging to maintain. Now that it’s almost March, it’s easier to sacrifice health for other less than ideal habits.

Little by little we say things like:

“My social life interferes on the weekends.”
“If I had more time I could go to the gym more.”
“I’m not the kind of person who can give up my wine.”

So now what?

The biggest challenge we face is not having enough motivation.

We believe we can look at motivational quotes and poof, we will achieve all of our goals.

Perhaps, sometimes you get a burst of energy to do things you’ve been putting off. But what about when you want to just sit on the couch and catch up on your shows?

Scientists have discovered that motivation or willpower is not an infinite resource. Unfortunately, willpower is depleted with every non-habitual activity you perform.

Don’t believe me? Try doing a bunch of things that are not routine… in one day. Take a new route to work, eat at a different restaurant for lunch, or buy your groceries from another store. Take note of how mentally drained you feel at the end of the day.

Making the change to healthy lifestyle requires a lot of time, energy, research, and planning. Just reading that list is enough to deter anyone from hopping back on the fitness train.
