FORT FIT — BUILDING BETTER HUMANS
Come In Crush Your WOD & Have FUN!
When we get stuck in a rut, it can feel nearly impossible to get out of.
We need more information, more time, or a better job and then we will figure out how to achieve everything we want in life.
We become comfortable because, lets face it, making a change is difficult. It’s easier to fool ourselves with illogical reasons not to do something than to leave the safe space of doing nothing at all.
When it comes to change, the brain doesn’t make things easy for us. According to David DiSalvo in What Makes Your Brain Happy and Why You Should Do the Opposite, “Our brains are prediction and pattern-detection machines that desire stability, clarity and consistency — which is terrific, except when it’s not.”
He goes on to explain that our brains establish patterns so we can better understand our surroundings and distinguish threats from innate objects. Any deviations from the normal patterns we detect, sets the brain on high alert and triggers a fight or flight response which we know by the name, anxiety.
This is why making the smallest change may seem incredibly difficult… because the brain views it as a something different & new.
No one wakes up thinking:
“Today I’m going to gain thirty pounds” or “I think I will run up my credit card debt this year.”
Like any habit, bad habits aren’t created overnight. They are built one small “I’ll do it tomorrow” at a time. Until its months later and you wonder where the days went.
Seneca tells us,
“Putting things off is the biggest waste of life: it snatches away each day as it comes, and denies us the present by promising the future. The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today.”
The Stoics believed in confronting obstacles head on and learning from every situation. Obstacles were viewed as opportunities to learn and grow.
At the crux of trying something new lies this small yet powerful statement, “what if.”
“What if I don’t lose the extra weight?”
What if I apply for a job and they don’t call me back?
What if I can’t finish this awful workout?
What if you actually accomplish everything you wanted to this year?
At the core of Fort Fit beliefs is the absolute refusal to remain stagnant. It is about more than just exercise and losing weight. It is about pushing your body, challenging yourself and allowing yourself to be pleasantly surprised with the results.
Fort Fit welcomes and accepts everyone who is brave enough to try. We don’t ask for perfect. We don’t expect olympic athlete performance. We celebrate those who show up when they’d rather sleep in, come in with a positive attitude and dare to try something they are not good at.
Training at Fort Fit allows you to circumvent primitive pitfalls. Rather than trying to figure it out on your own, we pick the daily workout for you. Every day brings a new challenge. We constantly change, try new things, and focus on weaknesses.
